What educators are saying

Perfect extension for my higher-level students! They were able to work on this while my grade level students worked on a more simple unit.

Description

This Klondike Gold Rush Unit contains a complete common core aligned social studies unit on the Canadian Gold Rush in the Yukon. Perfect for a gold rush interactive notebook, it contains gold rush questions, gold rush reading passages, and activities. After learning about the Klondike Gold Rush through the completion of an informational text mapping / close reading assignment and foldable, students invent their own characters in a fun project based learning assignment.

This package includes the following:

Klondike Gold Rush Title Page: A student title page is included, in case you would like to use this unit as part of an Interactive Notebook.

Text Mapping Resources All of the resources needed to complete a text mapping assignment are included - these resources can be used alongside ANY piece of informational text.

Klondike Gold Rush Informational Text Three pages of informational text on the Klondike Gold Rush are included. These can be used with the included text mapping resources.

Klondike Gold Rush Questions: A full page of questions is included to go along with the informational text. These questions can be used with the included text mapping resources.

Klondike Gold Rush Foldable A fun foldable is included. Information needed to complete the foldable can be found in the included informational text.

Klondike Gold Rush Project Based Learning Assignment For this project based learning assignment, students must reflect back on everything they have learned so far about the Gold Rush. Students must create their own character, compile a list of supplies from an included supply list (students are given a certain amount of money, and must choose and calculate the cost of their chosen supplies), justify their reasons for including certain supplies, and write a series of journal entries discussing the adventures of their character on the Chilkoot Pass and after their arrival in Dawson City, Yukon. Students then present their projects to the class. All templates needed to complete the project are included.
