    SUMMARY:

    Octavia Butler's Kindred highlights a black woman, Dana, who in 1976, is transported back through time to the ante-bellum Maryland from Southern California. Away from the true hardships of slavery, she meets her ancestors, both the Black and white ones. How does she navigate this time period? Why does she keep traveling back in time, then returning after?

    This 11th - 12th grade canonized work allows students to look at themselves, their world, and their past?
