What educators are saying

My students love this resource! Very helpful for me too and helps me provide a cute already made assignment for their reading for a purpose skill!
This is a great resource to use with the Journey's decodable books to have the students answer comprehension questions.

Description

This resource contains comprehension questions for each of the decodable readers that come with the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Journeys curriculum for SECOND GRADE UNIT 3. There are TWO decodable readers for each lesson (so 10 stories in all), and five comprehension questions for each decodable reader.

The digital option for this resource has already been done for you, it contains just the write-in pages with text boxes for students to type in answers.

These questions are compatible with the 2014 and 2017 editions of Journeys Decodable Readers. Questions for the following titles are included:

Jess Makes Gifts

Cooking With Mom Fox

Trains

The Waiting Game

The Shell Sheep

Reef Sees the Wide World

Bill E.Goat and Wise Crow

Mud Bugs

What Does It Say?

In the Grove

Even though the purpose of decodable text is not for deep comprehension, but I found that students were rushing through reading each story, without understanding what they read. I designed these questions to give me a way to check to make sure students understood what they read. These questions are meant to be used as a quick check to see that students are understanding what they read. It also lets them practice going back to the text to answer some "right there" questions. These can be used in small groups, for paired reading, or in literacy centers.

The questions are in three formats: one format is in a one page sheet for reference for the teacher to use in small group guided reading. The second is in a task card format that students can use individually or in paired reading. The third format is a written question and answer. I hope these can help you get the most out of the decodable readers!

I have Comprehension Questions for other units too!
