José Martí slide show in PDF format is a brief biography for Cuban poet, freedom fighter, etc. Slide show in PDF format also includes discussion questions for students to work in groups and then share with the class (preguntas de discusión).
I have also included a Web quest for José Martí. May be done in class if computers are available or assigned for HW. Great way to included technology into lessons.
I use this slideshow as an introduction for the poet prior to reading "Cultivo una rosa blanca". I also have students listen to the song "Guantanamera". There's a great You Tube video of Cubans around the world singing the song. Great lesson to make connections to history, poetry and music. Afterwards students write a short composition summarizing the life and death of José Martí.

For Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's birthday, students compare and contrast both historical figures using a Venn diagram.
