The unit is designed for students of Japanese and includes a wide variety of materials and activity ideas to free up teacher time for teaching!!
By undertaking this unit of work students will develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. ( Please note that ROMAJI is not used.)
The aim is that students will be able to report on the weather in cities in Japan.
This resource was originally created in 2015.
In 2021 a suggested teaching sequence was added.
The update in 2022 is a major one and involves more than cosmetic design changes.
The teaching sequence now includes images of the relevant activity pages and resources to make it easier for teachers to follow.
Australian Curriculum alignment suggestions are included.
Resources are arranged in sections to enable easier navigation through the 140 pages! New materials have been added and include illustrated charts useful for question and answer practice. A single page student reference summary page has also been added.
The language structures included are:
天気はどうですか。
はれです。
くもりです。
かぜがつよいです。
雪です。
雨です。
あらしです。
Some kanji have been included, in line with the Australian Curriculum recommendations. Students will find the kanji weather words easier to read than the hiragana version!!
ＰＬＡＣＥの天気はどうですか。
東京、大阪、京都、ながさき、広島、仙台、札幌
With the city names, they are shown in Kanji but with furigana support ( initially with English above and then hiragana). Students are not expected to write the city name kanji.
何どですか。
一どです。～三十どです。

The use of でしょう for forecasts is introduced as well as ときどき・のち
MANY different sets of cards are included and their use is explained. Clear, bright clipart pictures add to student engagement.
Original mnemonic story cards help students learn vocabulary quickly.
There is a split-flap book for teachers to guide students in developing reading skills and confidence.
Ideas for assessment tasks using ICT are included, as well as quick quizzes.
A student activity book can be printed and stapled together or printed as worksheets. Teachers can choose which pages to include and the sequencing that best suits their teaching style and students.
