Description

The spirit of the Islands comes alive! 'Destination: Music' is a seven-part essay series that follows one Musicologist's journey into Caribbean History.

'Jamaica's Reggae, Rage & Redemption' is the powerful 3200-word climax of the series. Incorporating all the lessons learned in previous essays, it discusses the uniquely miserable conditions endured by Jamaica's slaves, and the unique cultural output that emerged as a result. Included in the analysis are the theories of repatriation theories of Marcus Garvey, the rise of Rastafarianism, and the blending of all these elements to create Jamaica's most famous cultural export.

Every purchase includes the following Common Core-aligned materials:

---'Jamaica's Reggae, Rage and Redemption' Vocabulary List

---'Jamaica's Reggae, Rage and Redemption' Reading Comprehension Quiz

---'Jamaica's Reggae, Rage and Redemption' Match 'Em and True/False Worksheet

The essay series is an accompaniment to the short documentary movie 'Destination: Caribbean.' It can also be used standalone and included into a wide variety of curricula. Featuring topics that range from dance to history to the economic realities of being a Caribbean musician, each reading comes with a series of worksheets, activities and quizzes.

***An exciting and innovative way to teach Caribbean History! The film and all academic materials are in English. Appropriate for all ages, though subject matter is best suited for Grades 6 and up.***
