This Poem is from the poetry center unit Once Upon a Time. It is an early primary unit that uses fairy tales to help teach the difference between fiction and non-fiction, rhyme, sight words, first sound fluency, and sentence structure. The fairy tales used are based on traditional tales and presented in a poem format. The poems are written for early readers using many first learned sight words. Rhyme is a powerful vehicle to help teach comprehension and vocabulary. There are five fairy tales presented in this unit: The Princess Blues (Cinderella), Jack’s Giant (Jack and the Beanstalk), Pan’s Flight (Peter Pan), Princess Lillian and the Frog Prince, and The Little Red Hen. Your students will enjoy the new twist on these old favorites. The children will enjoy coloring, cutting and pasting the beautiful illustrations that accompany each fairy tale.
