Description

JOB INTERVIEW QUESTIONS: "Plan, Prepare, Practice & Perform!" prepares students for the questions that they will be asked during a job interview. The questions that have been included in this Education Get Real activity are those that students will encounter in almost all job interviews. Learning to "think quickly on their feet" and respond to job interview questions in a direct, honest, knowledgeable, and "marketable" manner is a skill that students need to develop. As the teacher, it is important that you prepare your students by using these questions in a number of different ways. At a certain point in their lives, all students will go through a job interview, and the more prepared they are -- the better. Finding the right job is essential in becoming an independent, responsible, and skilled worker and citizen. These questions have been gathered from numerous sources (mainly from Human Resource Specialists) who have willingly and voluntarily shared their interview questions because they are always looking for the most highly-qualified and competent applicants for positions in their companies. They do not want to waste their time on applicants who are unprepared or don't care.

  • Would knowing what some of the actual questions that H.R. specialists generally ask be helpful for your students?
  • Are your students prepared to answer these questions during a job interview?
  • Do they know how to respond in a positive manner to the tough questions that may be asked? How fast can they think on their feet?
  • Would their response be the right one?

SUGGESTIONS:

  • Schedule a mock interview simulation with an adult the students do not know (a Human Resources specialist is a great possibility).
  • Have adults (perhaps two teacher volunteers) role play a job interview in front of the class. How about asking your principal or other administrator to participate? One role play could be the correct way to interview and the other the wrong way.
  • Have students interview each other in class and then have two or three volunteers role play an interview in front of the class.
  • Ask parents complete a one-on-one simulated job interview with their student on these questions to prepare them for an interview. Most parents are very accustomed to the interview process and can be a real asset. Perhaps a parent could role play this in your class?

STANDARDS ADDRESSED/SUPPORTED:

  • Language Arts/English
  • Business Education
  • Workplace Readiness
  • Communication Skills
