Irregular Past Tense Verbs Activities and Irregular Plural Nouns Activities BUNDLE

MASTER Irregular Past Tense Verbs and Irregular Plural Nouns with these fun-to-play card games!

    *****************************************************************************

This Irregular Past Tense Verbs Game includes 50 illustrated cards that can help students learn to identify the irregular past tense of verbs as used in sentences. Students read the sentences, use the clues inside the parentheses to complete the sentences and check their answers using the ‘Content and Answer Key’ cards.

Just print on cardstock and cut or better yet, print, laminate, and cut, these cards will surely be a hit in your classroom. Use it all year round so students can master the irregular past tense of verbs.

    Suggestions on how to use/play:

Idea 1: Students place the cards face down. The first player rolls a die and picks the number of cards as shown on the die. The first player reads the number and sentence on the card aloud. The second player has to provide the correct irregular past tense form of the verb. The first player checks if the answer is correct using the ‘Content and Answer’ key cards. If the second player answers correctly, he/she gets to keep the card. If he/she answers incorrectly, however, the card has to be placed at the bottom of the pile to be answered later. Students take turns. The student with the most number of cards wins.

Idea 2: The teacher divides the class into two groups. He/she provides a bell for each group. The teacher shuffles the cards and uses them as flash cards. He/she calls two students, one from each group. The players read the card silently. If any of the players knows the correct irregular past tense of the verb, he/she has to ring the bell and read the sentence with the correct irregular past tense of the verb. If the player says the correct answer, the player’s group gets a point. If the answer is incorrect, the other player gets a chance to answer and steal the point. If the other player still answers incorrectly, the card has to be placed at the bottom of the pile to be answered later. Students who give the right answers stay in the game and take turns answering for their group. The game can continue until the groups run out of members or the teacher runs out of cards. The group with the most points wins.

Shuffle the cards and lay out all the cards face down, so that no cards overlap. The first player turns over any two cards, one after the other, leaving the first card face up while the second card is turned. If the two cards make a pair (For example, wife and wives), then the player takes the cards and puts them face down in front of them in a pile and has another turn.

The player’s turn ends when the two cards turned over do not match or make a pair. After a pause for all players to see, these two cards must be laid face down again in exactly the same position. It is then the next player’s turn.

When cards are turned over, it is important for players to remember where they are. Play continues until all the cards have been taken. The player with the most pairs is the winner.
