Description

Are guest speakers a challenge for you to find for your personal finance classroom? Time, connections, lack of funding, and location can make it difficult to find knowledgeable, engaging, and fiduciary speakers to bring an exciting perspective to a topic in your classroom.

I've recorded and am continuing to record guest speakers who join my classroom and others across the country to speak about topics that I might not be an expert on yet or who I know will bring an amazing perspective to students about the money topic we are discussing. These are all experts and influencers in the financial literacy space who we would love for our students to follow and learn from outside of our classrooms.

In this presentation, Yanely Espinal, known online as Miss Be Helpful, author of Mind Your Money, and the Director of Educational Outreach at Next Gen Personal Finance (NGPF), breaks down the different types of accounts, the benefits of each, and the steps for opening a brokerage or Roth IRA today in easy-to-understand language.

Some of the questions we answer include:

  • What are the different types of accounts?
  • Can anyone invest?
  • How much money do I need to start investing?
  • What does "tax-advantaged" account mean?
  • Which account(s) should I use to invest?

In this resource you will get:

  • The full classroom presentation from Yanely hosted by me.
  • A student reflection document which can be assigned as a Google Document or printed and completed by hand.
  • A printable classroom poster containing the bio of the speaker and ways for students to see more of their work and/or connect.

Make sure to check out the other speakers in the series! To get notified about live upcoming speakers that you can join with your class, sign up for my newsletter.
