Description

This editable PowerPoint can help you introduce Modernism to your students, with a side of corny tid-bits that they may or may not laugh at!

You may want to use it right before reading works by...
- F. Scott Fitzgerald
- T. S. Eliot
- Ernest Hemingway
- Ezra Pound
- Gertrude Stein
- Virginia Woolf

After downloading, check out the "Notes" section of each slide. I've included notes that should be written into the PowerPoint as you go (so it helps if you have access to a SmartBoard. If not, you are able to type the notes into the boxes). The PowerPoint notes also include tips for discussion and a link to a YouTube video your kiddos may find amusing. I suggest printing the PowerPoint as a handout for each student, and they add notes as you go through each slide. Depending on the level of discussion in your class, this PowerPoint can take 15-45 minutes.

This was created for an American literature class, although there are points in the PowerPoint that apply to British literature as well. (The PowerPoint is editable, so it's easy to tweak it for a Brit lit class.) For our curriculum, Modernism comes right after we read Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. We begin The Great Gatsby right after we discuss this PowerPoint.
