What educators are saying

This was a good resource. Students were engaged, and the conversation allowed me to see they were able to connect all the aspects of what was happening before the war. I used this more for a review activity because it covered so much information.

    Description

If you are looking for fun and engaging activities to introduce American history topics like the American Revolution, the Civil War, Westward Expansion, and Immigration to America in your U.S. History class, these mapping games are perfect for you!

Based on the Urban Game format, the teacher will read from a script, guiding students through the development of the events leading to the main event in each era. Students will complete specific tasks and will draw a map of America, adding a key and details as the script is read. They will see how specific events impacted the era in American History and how the country quickly changed as a result.

    Includes:

    Teacher Script

    Image of completed map

    Debriefing notes

    Suggested follow-up questions and activities

    Skills Practiced:

    Listening

    Mapping

    Designing a Key

    Following Directions Timelining

    Critical Thinking

    Inquiry

    Topics Covered:

    Boston Massacre

    Intolerable Acts

    American Revolution

Causes of War Between the States

    Civil War

    Westward Expansion

    Louisiana Purchase

    Immigration

    Urbanization

    And so many more!

No answer keys are included since these activities are based on the completion of tasks and listening. A completed map is included on the teaching guide to help you see where students should be headed in their task, but individuality is important.

Assessing this activity can come from attempting to complete the tasks, listening and following directions, and participating in discussion or writing after the activity is completed. Assessments should NOT be based on students accurately completing all details in the script. The lesson is more about how events in the Age of Immigration progressed to change America.

    Included Drawing Games:

    American Revolution Drawing Game

    American Westward Expansion Drawing Game

    American Civil War Drawing Game

    Immigration into America Drawing Game

More Mapping Games & Activities available now! And others coming soon!
