Description
Your students are technologically advanced...why not use it to their advantage in the classroom?
Students will "value" their knowledge of numbers more after completing this web-based activity. Students will have more confidence working with numbers and calculating answers when they have a deeper understanding and appreciation for the base-10 numeration system. Reading and writing numbers based on groups of 10 is a requisite skill for mastering and truly internalizing most math concepts because math is essentially a subject about quantity and sequence/order.
Just equip them with a chrome book, laptop or pc and the student response sheet and your students will be ready to explore place value in a fun and challenging way. This unique lesson uses PREZI to introduce place value concepts and then challenges students to apply the concepts in order to demonstrate understanding and degree of mastery.
This activity can be used as a pre-assessment prior to teaching a unit on place value, a center activity or a diagnostic after teaching to help instructors gauge the levels of understanding their students have regarding place value.
The animations and movement within a PREZI presentation keeps students engaged in learning.
This activity includes:
- Access to the PREZI presentation on the internet
- A students recording sheet
- An answer key for instructors
- Vocabulary cards (for use on anchor charts) to help students learn and/or review important place value terminology
The activity and all questions are aligned with the Common core. Standards specifically addressed are: 3.NBT.A.1 and 3.NBT.A.2
If you are interested in additional Prezi MathQuests 3-packs are also available at a discounted price.
