  • answering questions,
  • learning relevant seasonal vocabulary,
  • matching pictures to pictures and words to pictures,
  • helping students practice and demonstrate reading comprehension,
  • and sequencing of events from a story.

❤️One adapted book even focuses on verbs, while another includes verbs and nouns. Plus, the interactive books are a perfect combination of photo books and illustrated books.

Tips on Using the Adapted Books in Early Childhood or Special Education Classrooms

With the inclusion of matching both pictures and/or words for the interactive pieces, the books are easily adaptable to different ages and skill levels.  Each book is written at approximately the 2nd grade level.

For preschool and early childhood students, use the printable book during small group story time or morning meeting. Students can hold the pictures while you are read. When you get to the page with their picture, they can hold up their hands to put the picture on.

Special education students in middle and high school working on life skills instruction in the special education classroom interact with the adapted books by matching pictures to pictures and/or words to words.  They can demonstrate comprehension through choosing the right picture or word with the interactive pieces.

The interactive elements of the adapted books make them perfect for reading intervention activities or a reading center. Or use them in independent work or during free time as a choice activity.
