Description

This differentiated vocabulary product for the first seven chapters of Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus by Dusti Bowling was written for both traditional and inclusion classrooms.

Quiz:

  • 16 vocabulary words
  • Part one ~ match each vocabulary word with the correct definition
  • Part two ~ Sentences with fill in the blank with the appropriate vocabulary word. Most sentences are quoted from the novel. A word box is included.
  • Part three ~ complete the analogies using the best word from the word box. Then, identify whether the words in the analogies are synonyms or antonyms.
  • Part three includes the definition of an analogy and examples of analogies for both synonyms and antonyms.

Modified Quiz:

  • Part one has the same number of questions but are broken down into smaller groups
  • Part two - sentences are the same as the examples on modified work sheet but are broken down into smaller groups. The sentences for the work sheets are the same sentences on the quiz, giving students who use the modified work sheets and added advantage for success.
  • Part III - Many of the analogies are modified

Work Sheet:

  • 16 Vocabulary words
  • Page and paragraph numbers where the words are found in the text
  • Directions: 1. For each word, find the sentence in the book and write it on the line provided. 2. Based on how the word is used in the sentence, write what you believe the word means. 3. Look up each word in the dictionary and write the meaning that matches the meaning used in your book.
  • Space to write the answers
  • Short version – only write a synonym or short definition

Modified Work Sheet:

  • 16 Vocabulary words
  • Page and paragraph numbers where the words are found in the text
  • Context clue sentence for each vocabulary word
  • Directions: 1. Based on how the word is used in the sentence, write what you believe the word means. 2. Look up each word in the dictionary and write the meaning that matches the meaning used in your book.
  • Space to write the answers

Study Guide:

  • 16 Vocabulary words
  • Page and paragraph numbers where the word is found in the novel
  • Given out after students complete work sheets
  • Designed so that students can cut out and match up to study or paste on index cards
  • All definitions correspond to the use of the word in the text.

Detailed Answer Key:

  • The study guide doubles as an answer key for work sheets
  • Answer keys are copies of quizzes with the answers

Easel Assessment:

  • 30 Questions
  • 16 Match each word with the correct definition
  • 6 Sentences with fill in the blank using the appropriate vocabulary word
  • 8 Analogies – complete the analogy and identify synonym or antonym
