What educators are saying

This is a very relevant topic for my grade 7 class and they enjoyed working on it. The vaping unit was also fantastic to use. It is really great to have all the work done for me and I can use the resource so easily in class.
100% of my freshmen students admitted to having drank an energy drink in the last year. It blew my mind, but made them a lot more into researching this stuff (which I knew very little about). Thanks!

Description

An Inquiry Based Learning Project your students are going to love!

Energy Drinks are one of the fastest growing sections of the food industry, and a growing issue in high schools everywhere (over 40% of students admit to having had one in the last three months!). But what exactly are they at risk of? Are energy drinks better than drinking coffee or a can of soda? Are they ok to have on occasion?

Our students should know the truth about the drinks they're consuming and their affects, but more importantly they should know how to find these things out the next time some fad food or diet becomes popular. In this project, students are given a general overview of how inquiry projects work, and are then set loose to dive into an authentic research process. At the end, they are given the option of presenting in one of four different modes: A presentation, a podcast, a documentary film, or an essay.

This Package Includes:

  • An Overview of Inquiry Based Research projects
  • An Introduction to Energy Drinks handout
  • The Assignment with Rubric
  • A mini-lesson and video on Lateral Reading and conducting online research
  • 5 Pre-Selected Sources of reliable and vetted background information on energy drinks
  • Research Note Template Sheets for student research
  • A One-On-One Check in Meeting Prep sheet
  • Suggested Teacher Check In Questions (for you to follow up with them)
  • A final product Planning Page for students to choose the best format for presenting their research
  • A research Presentation Outline activity

Hope you enjoy!
