Description
India! The Toran – Gateway to the Indian Home is an easy, kid-friendly lesson on the importance of welcoming guests in the Indian tradition.
In India, hospitality is very important. Here, students learn about some of the beautiful ways of greeting guests into the home with a special look at the toran, a door decoration found all over India. Included is a lesson on the toran's history and traditional design motifs. Power Point images are included to accompany the lesson.
Students will then have the opportunity to make a toran for themselves using an Idea Board with authentic examples for inspiration. Students may create their own designs or use printables included. The student-produced torans are colorful and creative and make a wonderful decoration when hung together on bulletin boards, across doorways, or down hallways.

Materials needed to make craft include template printed onto multicolored card stock, silver paint (one 2-oz. bottle per class), q-tips, string, scissors, tape, and markers (including black)/colored pencils/crayons.
