INFORMATIVE WRITING: Rough Draft of 5-Paragraph Essay Template

Students need to be able to write at length on standardized tests, and eventually they will need the skill of constructing a 5-paragraph essay complete with an introduction, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion. This template is useful no matter what topic you're teaching and it organizes students' thoughts in a step-by-step fashion so they successfully compose an informative essay. Each paragraph box reminds students of the critical components of each paragraph. Students' essays will improve with this basic framework visually clear in their minds.

Introduction: Attention-getter (hook) + Thesis Statement

Body Paragraphs: Topic Sentence on first Main Idea + Information (Facts/Details) + Text Evidence+ Elaboration + Concluding Sentence

Conclusion: Thesis Statement (reworded) + Closing remarks
