Description

This lesson entitled, "The Second Red Scare - American Policies & Rhetoric in the 1940s and 1950s Document Source Analysis", is aligned with the IBO's History Guide of 2017 and 2020.

In this lesson, students will analyze different documents related to America’s response to the growing threat that Soviet expansionism had had on American national security. Questions are provided at the end of each of the provided documents to aid the students in their analysis and in understanding how domestic policy in the 1950s was influenced by the federal government’s response to the “real” or the perceived Soviet threat to America’s liberties and national security. They will realize that these policies influenced American culture: film, TV shows, radio, literature, music, and political cartoons.
