Description

This collection of I Can Statement Posters is aligned with 6th grade Tennessee Social Studies standards, and is to be used with the study of ancient civilizations. This set could possibly be used in grades 5-8 depending on curriculum content. Common Core State Standards addressed include vocabulary standards RL.5.4, 6.4, 7.4, 8.4, RI.5.4, 6.4, 7.4, 8.4, L.5.4-5, 6.4-5, 7.4-5, and L.8.4-5. Full page I Can Statement posters are written in student friendly language, and include landscape format and large font in black & white. The posters are not labeled specifically with grade level or state standards, so they may be used in other grades and other states as well. The 10 I Can Statements include the following civilizations: Prehistory/Human Origins in Ancient Africa, Ancient Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Ancient India, Ancient China, Ancient Israel, Ancient Greece, and Ancient Rome. An Ancient Civilizations title poster and a title poster for each ancient civilization are also included. (Prehistory and Human Origins in Ancient Africa posters address the same standard. Both are included for teacher choice as some refer to this period as Prehistory, and some prefer to teach the standard explicitly.) A fill-in-the-blank I Can Statement poster in addition to a fill-in-the-blank title poster is included for use as needed.

These standards-based posters would be most appropriate for display as each civilization is addressed. Vocabulary taken directly from the standards for each ancient civilization is included in the pack. This includes a 2 page list of vocabulary words as well as vocabulary cards (with civilization title cards) that can be cut apart for display or for student use. The addition of the vocabulary cards for each ancient civilization further engage students with words directly from the standards. To make the content even more engaging, have students create sentence strips including key facts and text evidence about the civilizations that could be positioned around the posters for student reference or for use as a teacher modeling tool for an added instructional punch to further support students and enhance instruction!

• 10 I Can Statement Posters
