I CAN FIND THE MAIN IDEA Comprehension Passages with Easel Pages

Do you need a quick way to assess how (grades 2-4) students are able to demonstrate their understanding of both fiction and nonfiction texts ? Students will choose details that help them know the main ideas and by writing out those main ideas. I wrote the passages to be just long enough for teachers to quickly assess whether students know the skill. One buyer wrote that she liked this for quick extra practice at finding the main idea in addition to her guided reading group materials.

These PDF pages are print and go: an easy to implement resource. NEW: There is an 10 page digital copy on Easel with AUDIO for you to assign on student's devices. YOU WILL NOT NEED TO PREP ANYTHING TO USE THE DIGITAL VERSION.

If you purchase open the TPT Easel link to use this resource with the pages of your choosing for your student's devices. Simply go to edit pages and remove the ones you wish to remove for any given assignment. If you wish to change your selections you can revert back to the original pages and choose again.

The passages progress in difficulty so that they can be used to differentiate within reading groups while still teaching the main idea concept to all of the levels in a classroom. Each passage asks students to write a sentence to explain the main idea and has a multiple choice question that asks which detail in the selection helped them know the main idea so it is a reliable format. It becomes valid when students receive feedback and the ideas are discussed. This resource is not editable.
