Description

Engage your students in a mini-lesson about poetry and symbolism, followed by an original "I AM" poem writing practice! This is a powerful assignment for upper elementary and/or middles!

This editable, Google Slides resource first reviews symbolism in poetry using several hyperlinked videos and student reflection, followed by guided student writing practice to produce an original "I AM" poem (incorporating symbolism). Give your students an opportunity to write in celebration of themselves!

With this resource you get a lesson and a poetry writing practice, as well as an original artifact students can produce and you can use in a gallery walk, open house, conference display, bulletin board, and more! To do this, just have students use the "I AM" poem slide as a rough draft prior to creating a final copy on a piece of tag board or construction paper. They can also decorate it with symbols mentioned in their poem. Your display is all about them with little to no prep for you!

This complete resource is available to view in the preview, so be sure to check it out!
