Description

This is a fun way to integrate math and language arts when reading The Hunger Games. However, it's also fun in a math class even if The Hunger Games isn't being read. There are five word problems that place the students right into the Hunger Games as a contestant. They must answer all 5 word problems correctly in order to survive. All the word problems review major concepts from the 6th grade Number Systems Strand of the CCSS.

Use the distributive property to express a sum of two whole numbers 1–100 with a common factor as a multiple of a sum of two whole numbers with no common factor. For example, express 36 + 8 as 4 (9 + 2).
Solve real-world and mathematical problems by graphing points in all four quadrants of the coordinate plane. Include use of coordinates and absolute value to find distances between points with the same first coordinate or the same second coordinate.
