How to Cut a... Knife Skills Presentation and Demonstration Project
- Google Docs™
Description
For this project, students will team up in pairs and teach the class how to properly cut a specific food. They will first create a short slideshow, present the information, then provide a demonstration to the class using Play-doh and a (real) knife.
Materials needed: Play-doh (or real food), knives used in the culinary classroom, and a cutting board
22 fruits, vegetables, and herbs are listed in the instructions for students to choose from. Students will first choose a food, create a slideshow on how to cut it (also what knives to use, how to prepare it, etc.), present to the class, then demonstrate the knife cuts.
As this resource is a Google Doc, everything is editable with the exception of an example project. You can choose to edit the entire rubric, point values, and any of the instructions to fit your classroom and students best. I would recommend having a cart, demo counter, or table set up near a projector for students to present and demo at the same time. If you are able to purchase the food items, the instructions could be easily altered. If you are able to offer extra credit, allow students to bring in food to cut and sample!
