Holidays Around the World-Suitcase Project for ECE Students

Students will broaden their worldview through this project in which they will research holiday traditions from a selected country. Students will research and plan developmentally appropriate activities for young children based on their findings. They will present their findings using the provided criteria in the form of a file folder “suitcase”. The purpose of this assignment is not to celebrate or promote certain holidays, but to inform students about the traditions found within many different cultures. Students love this project as they learn about other cultures and discover the importance of acknowledging the many traditions celebrated by children around the world. I use this project with my ECE 2 high school students in our teacher preparation program.
