Description
Holiday Candy Sales is a final Excel assessment, but can also be used as an assignment. Students create a spreadsheet, a column chart, and a line chart. They use the spreadsheet data and charts to answer 3 questions.
Your students should have experience with Excel before attempting this activity. Like most of my resources, written directions, a screencast video, and a completed Example are included to support all students.
The video is critical for student support. Use it for beginner English Language Learners, Special Ed students, and low readers. I also let other students use the video for support as needed. Some will use it if they forgot how to do a specific task, such as using the Ctrl key to select data that isn’t side by side.
Here are the Excel skills used in this resource:
- Adjust column width and row height
- Wrap Text
- Write basic formulas
- Fill Handle
- Color and Bold text
- Center columns
- Create a column chart and a line chart
- Use the Ctrl key to select data that isn’t side by side
- Add a chart title and axis titles.
- Rename the Series.
- Outline and move the chart.
- Use the data to answer questions
If your students are not familiar with some of these skills, they should still be able to complete this activity by using the step-by-step video. The video is also helpful if you have students entering your class throughout the semester or year, who may have missed some of the skills your students have learned.
An editable rubric is included.
Most students can complete this activity in one class.
