History in Music

Listen to three prophetic contemporary popular songs addressing historical events, political issues and after each song, answer 7 questions provided thereafter.

Themes to be addressed include:

- war and peace

- power and people

- arrogance and corruption

- personality and principles

Do not overly analyze the songs. Go with your initial reaction, instinct and feelings based on what you are hearing. There is no right or wrong answer, as these are opinion questions.

Once everyone is done, the teacher should facilitate some class discussions and let students share their answers and viewpoints so all can gain additional insight and perspective thereafter.
