High School - William Yeats Poetry Annotation Guide- Scaffolded Close Reading
- PDF
Description
Perfect for the winter season! "Down by the Salley Garden" by William B Yeats.
Annotating is by far one of the greatest tools for a student to master. It helps navigate challenging texts, analyze concepts, prepare for essays, and more. Once students believe they can do it, their understanding of texts just gets deeper.
This guided and scaffolded annotation practice prompts student to analyze poetry. For nearly each line of the poem, the student is instructed to do one of the following: identify and explain a literary device, summarize, identify a shift, or circle diction.
I recommend going over the literary devices present so they know what may arrive. Better yet, hand out my figurative language sheet for them to have on hand or complete this annotation activity after working through my figurative language practice! These can be as challenging as the teacher wants. There is a copy with the devices written so they just have to explain (standard) There is also a blank copy for students who may not need any hints or additional aid in this area (advanced).
What's Included:
- Standard Copy
- Advanced Copy
- Teacher Key
