Disclaimer: This song does have provocative thoughts, as happens in the rap genre. The purpose is to analyze and learn from the lyrics as a form of poetry and a creative form of argumentative writing.

Purpose of this Assignment: The central goal of this assignment is to critically analyze the persuasive arguments presented in this song, within the scope of pop culture and society. Students should try to understand the messages, metaphors, and references made in this song, and think critically for themselves about them. The assignment is not to encourage students to all agree with the author, but to understand the author and think critically for themselves.

After listening to the song students read through the sections of lyrics. Students use the helpful terminology and background context to think about the questions he raises and how that relates to any current issues you are aware of today. Students then write their thoughts and answers on a separate sheet of paper.
