Description

This unit file on Hatchet is full of ready to use activities. Each activity is based on a variety of literary topics. There are pre-reading activities as well as a final exam. Some of the chapter activities include: Figurative Language, Foreshadowing, Compare and Contrast, Drawing Conclusions, Generalizations, Visualization, Paradoxes, Conflict, Plot, Sensory Details, Flashback, Symbolism, Setting, Making Connections, Theme, and Character Traits. Many activities explain the literary topic, and then require the students to write and explain their reasoning for their answers. There is also a student guide for the vocabulary words along with a teacher guide that gives each definition. Four quizzes are included to monitor vocabulary and comprehension while reading the book. Vocabulary crossword puzzles are included to use for extra practice prior to each quiz. Answer keys are included for the crossword puzzles, quizzes, and final exam, and some samples of student responses are included for the activities.
All the activities are correlated to the sixth grade Common Core Standards. Download the preview to view the table of contents of all the activities along with the documentation of the Common Core standards.
