Description

This is a PPT tutorital containing steps and photo examples for hand sewing a drawstring back using the running stitch, backstitch, and blind hem (slip) stitch. It is the final project for my students after they learn the most common stitches and sewing terminology. This is specifically for my costume design students, but is very applicable in FACS or any textile course. They complete this bag in place of a test. It requires 1 fat quarter of fabric and a 24" piece of cord, ribbon, bias tape, etc per student.

All photos were taken by me on my ipad as I constructed a bag in the same fashion I am asking my students to. It took me approximately 1.5 hours, including stops for photo breaks. I allot my students 3 to 4 45-minute periods to complete theirs in class.

The printed instructions and rubric are also available free from my store.
