    Description

Ready to teach act 3 of Hamlet? Don't have the time or desire to plan it? Here is everything you'll need (minus the text) to thoroughly analyze act 3 of Hamlet.

    Included in this bundle are:

*Study guides for all 4 scenes. Each one matches chronologically with the text and asks open-ended questions to help students understand the plot, characters' motivations, diction, author's purpose, and to in general develop a deeper understanding of the text. Answer keys included. They are editable Google Docs if you need to change, add, or remove questions.

*Two activities to close read and analyze Hamlet's famed "To Be or Not To Be" soliloquy. One is a text analysis asking students to translate the speech into modern English and then annotate for themes, literary devices, and Hamlet's shifting emotions. The second is a film analysis (clips not included - available on YouTube and EdPuzzle - contact me if you need assistance with this) where students write an essay comparing and contrasting 3 different performances of the "To Be" soliloquy. Both of these are on editable Google Docs.

*A holistic Act 3 analysis activity designed for after students have read all of act 3. Students first explain the purposes of each scene and then discuss which they personally feel is the shift or turning point of the play. Then they are asked to choose from 4 different sets of questions related to different events and characters from the act (including analyzing how women are portrayed/treated, Gertrude's role, the Ghost's reappearance, and (spoiler!!) Polonius's death. This is also an editable Google Doc.

All of these are editable Google Docs. Rubrics and answer keys included where applicable. This entire bundle takes one week of 90-minute class periods with my honors 12th graders, including reading and/or watching all 4 scenes.
