Description

This cute Halloween emergent reader for kindergarten lets students practice reading sight words in context and using illustrations support to help understand meaning.

Each page of this Halloween reader features a single sentence with picture support, predictable text pattern, and tracking dots to build one-to-one correspondence. All of this scaffolding ensures success and builds confidence in young students just learning to read!

The 8-page book is provided in three versions:

  • Full Color Reader – Use for reading practice. Text is written in a large, primary font with the focus sight word in bold. There is also a dot placed below each word to help students with tracking and one-to-one correspondence.
  • Black & White Reader 1 - Students interact with the text by writing the focus sight word within the context of a sentence and coloring the pictures.
  • Black & White Reader 2 - Same as the color version but in black and white. This is great for take-home reading practice!

There is also a set of vocabulary and sight word cards to pre-teach words students will encounter in the story.

Sight words used in this emergent Halloween reader:

  • see (focus word)
  • I
  • the

This resource includes a digital version in Easel. Students use the pen tool to trace the sight word on each page.
