What's important to teachers that are putting together sub plans? One thing is for sure, it takes time to put plans together.

For me, it is important that the sub be able to easily understand the plans. This makes for a smooth day! It is also important that the kids are doing something that will keep them on task for the time allotted for the subject. Something easy for the sub to understand and explain.

    How it works:

    • Print the student pages. Choose enough for 1 day or up to 5 days.
    • Print the letters to sub for each subject. She will look at each letter and know exactly what she needs to do with the practice pages. See more details below.
    • Place everything in order on your desk or in a designated area that your team is aware of. (in case of Emergency Sub Day)
    • You'll receive a great report from you students and your substitute.

Each letter has a "What to do with Completed Work" area:

The sub will check one of the following.

    • send it home
    • pick up the papers
    • allow partner work
    • check the paper together
    • allow class sharing

Laminate these programmable letters and use them over and over.

A Blank "Dear Substitute" letter is also included for additional information.

The content for each subject was chosen very carefully. I wanted the students to be able to do the activities by themselves. (Every class is different, so partnering students up is a great option is a student is unable to complete the assignments independently.)

The addition, subtraction, graphing, phonics skills, social studies and science should have all been covered in kindergarten making the activities included in this resource a wonderful review for first graders.
