The sorting cards feature a picture with the word underneath. Students will read the words and sort them according to the sound they hear in the word. The target letter/sound is highlighted in red.

This is a great hands-on activity for word work centers, phonics instruction, or speech/language therapy.

This resource also includes a simple, 2-player tic-tac-toe game. Students take turns drawing a word card. They read the word, say the sound the red letter makes, and then place it somewhere on the game board. The first player to get three cards in a row wins. This activity can be used in your literacy centers.

This decodable book tells the story of Hansel and Gretel and gives students lots of practice reading words with hard and soft C and hard and soft G. The reader builds fluency, phonics, and comprehension skills. It includes companion worksheets and literacy center activities.

• Read the target letter sounds (C and G)
• Read the story of Hansel and Gretel
• Highlight words in the story with the target letter sounds
• Add pictures to the story that support the text (cut and glue)
• Re-read the story to build fluency
• Answer comprehension questions about the story
• Record words they highlighted, sorting by phonics pattern

WORD CARDS

Each card includes a picture and a word from the story that contains either a C or G. The words have elkonin boxes in place of the target letter.
