Gumball Probability Chance Colouring in Activity
Description
This is a great open-ended activity where students in your class colour in the gumballs in each of the gumball machines to match the probability/chance statements. Student gain familiarity with chance vocabulary including impossible, certain and likely.
I always find that my students find endless possibilities and enjoy sharing how they coloured their gumball machines differently but still match the chance statements.
This is a great independent maths rotation activity. My students enjoy colouring aspect of this maths activity and often take the time to do it very neatly. I have found that this activity is perfect for when you need them to be working independently and quietly while you work with another group. To make it more challenging, you can copy the activity back to back and get students to find another way to colour the gumballs.
I have also used this as a formative assessment activity.
