ESCAPE ROOM: ESCAPE THE MINDSET MONSTER!
Oh no! The Mindset Monster has transported your whole class from your room at school... into his home. He wants to test whether or not your class possesses a growth mindset or a fixed mindset. If you can use your growth mindset skills to solve the puzzles he has concocted, he will send you back to school. If you can't, he will keep you prisoner at his home for ten years where you will sit through 24 hour growth mindset lessons!
ESCAPE ROOM ADVENTURES are so much fun! Working cooperatively in teams, students must decipher clues and puzzles to "escape" from the villain! In this packet, they will have to use their knowledge of growth mindset, flex their critical thinking muscles and collaborate with peers in an engaging and interactive way! It's the perfect activity to promote and review growth mindset and have some fun at the same time!

IS THERE A LOT OF PREP?
There is prep involved, but I have done my best to keep it to a minimum. The prep mainly involves cutting things out. There are detailed instructions and a checklist to make it as simple as possible.
WILL I HAVE TO BUY EXPENSIVE LOCKS AND CONTAINERS?
No!
WHAT EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED?
* white paper
* a printer
* 24 envelopes
* scissors
* a small bit of poster putty OR a few pieces of tape
* access to 6 digital devices is optional, as I have included 2 versions of the Escape Room - one using digital devices and one without digital devices. (If you do use the digital version, you will need to sign up for free access to BOOM Learning).
WHY IS THE RESOURCE SUITABLE FOR THIRD GRADE TO SEVENTH GRADE?
The activities have various levels of differentiation. This means that the Escape Room is suitable for multiple grades. It also means that teachers are able to cater for different abilities within their own classrooms, allowing ALL students to actively participate!
***I would NOT recommend this activity as an *introduction* to GROWTH MINDSET. Students should have some idea of what having a growth mindset means before attempting this Escape!***
WILL MY STUDENTS BE TOTALLY LOST?
Hopefully not! Included in this pack is a practice activity to complete before the "real escape" begins! This allows the students to understand how to navigate during the actual escape.
WILL THIS ESCAPE ROOM WORK VIRTUALLY?
No, this Escape Room will not work virtually. It is designed to be a hands-on, highly interactive, teamwork orientated, move-around-the-room experience.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR STUDENTS TO COMPLETE THE ESCAPE?
This is difficult to predict! A number of factors will come into play here, including: ability level of students, if the students have played an escape game before, how many hints given by the teacher etc. However, you will need a minimum of 60 minutes to complete this escape. I like to say that it could take between 1-2 hours.
