Greenhouse Gases EPA article with worksheet

With all the high-stakes testing going on in other disciplines (math and English, notably), science teachers are being asked to help students succeed in those arenas. Literacy in the Chemistry class room can be a challenging goal to accomplish as many chemistry texts are not accessible to high school students.
The EPA has terrific information it shares on its website about greenhouse gases and global warming. I have taken material from the website and created a 2 page reading activity that is engaging, easy to read and rigorous in its content. I give two worksheet options - one option is a guided response form and the other is a free write option using the "Claim, Evidence, Warrant" paradigm for annotating and reading texts.
Alternatively, you can send students to the linked EPA websites and have them watch the videos and access the interactive charts online to fill out the sheets provided.
I have used this article as an enrichment activity to talk about "elements, compounds and mixtures" (comparing structures/compositions of ozone, methane, nitrous oxide, water, air, etc.) and about properties/uses of covalent compounds (since all the gases mentioned in the article are covalent!-why no ions?!?).
