What educators are saying

I only was able to use this for a few weeks this year. However, it was easy to print a smaller version and set up a board on a cabinet door. The kids were engaged during this center.
I use this resource in the hallway, as an early finisher or something students will do as they swap classes and are out in the hallway. I have students that COMPETE over this, and love when I change the board out every couple of weeks!

Description

Limited-Time Sale! Are you looking for a highly motivating yet low-prep vocabulary or spelling activity for your ELA classroom? Students love to play Greek and Latin Roots, Prefixes, and Affixes BOGGLE! This resource includes both a bulletin board set and 40 different game sheets. Each worksheet reviews 1-2 word parts.

Greek and Latin Roots Boggle is easy to play and self-differentiating. Students earn points for any words they find with 3 or more letters. Teachers can encourage students to review the roots, affixes, and suffixes by using the included rule that doubles the point value of words using the targeted word part.

What You’ll Get

You will have everything you need for 40 weeks of Greek & Latin morphology Boggle.

  • A complete BOGGLE bulletin board set, including letter cards, direction posters (You choose if you want to use them all!), and two student certificates/posters (longest word & most words.)
  • 40 BOGGLE board worksheets - These are editable so that you can change the word focus and the BOGGLE board.
  • Word Wall Cards for each word part used, plus one editable word wall card.

I recommend printing a minimum of 3 sets of bulletin board letters on card stock and laminating them. 4 would be better.

For the spelling rules and reward posters, you can print and laminate them to use as posters on the bulletin board. You can also print them and use them as student rewards each week.

How to Play

Find words in the Boggle board by connecting letters. Letters can be connected horizontally, vertically, or diagonally - but the same letter cannot be used more than once in a word.

Each puzzle includes words with the targeted root, prefix, or suffix. However, students find any word of 3+ letters. (With a 5 x 5 board, a limited number of target words fit in the boards.)

Students earn points based on the length of each word. Teachers can double the value of words with the targeted word part.

I used the letter cards to put the game board on the weekly worksheet on a bulletin board to make a game area in my room.

Why Teachers Love It!

  • Students love to play! Use as an incentive to keep students engaged. I used it as morning work and early finisher activities. I did not require students to do it, but students who found the most words and longest word each week were given a certificate and small prize.
  • Low-Prep - if you have a job chart, make the bulletin board a job. I always had student volunteers put up mine.
  • Self-Differentiating - there is no "correct" answer. Students will each find different words, and that's okay!
  • Student-led activity - I determined which students found the most word and the longest word each week, and then I had them present where they found some of their words. I set a time limit on the review, so we did not necessarily go over all of the words.
