Description

Improve your Grade 3 & 4 student's writing with this writing goal tracking sheet. Glue it into your students book or on their front cover and track what students can do, what they are learning to do and where to next. If students have achieved the 2 star writing goals, move them onto the 3 star writing goals!

This tool is perfect for differentiation and tailoring learning to each child. These resources are based on the new (2021) NSW syllabus and the literacy progressions. However, they will be applicable to Year 3 and 4 internationally.

This pack includes:

1. 1-star, 2-star and 3-star writing goal book covers.

2. An instruction page

Instructions

Step 1: Print a class set of book covers.

Year 3: Most Year 3 students will begin on the 2-star cover, however, you may begin some students on 1-star or 3-star depending on their ability.

Year 4: Most Year 4 children will start on either 2 star or 3 star, depending on their ability. However, you may need to begin some students on 1-star.

When printing, scale the page size to whatever size suits your class books on your school photocopier. A standard exercise book works well at 72%. Glue book covers onto student writing books. Students write their names at the top.

Step 2: Each child has a discussion with their teacher as to which goal suits their abilities. Highlight the goal and write the number '1' next to the goal.

Step 3: Students complete their goal three times and check off as they go.

Step 4: Teacher and student discuss their goal. If their goal has been achieved, the teacher may move them onto another goal. If not, student can revise the goal again.

Step 5: Continue process by marking the goals 1-11 throughout the year

1 = the first goal given, 12 = the last goal

Step 6: If students complete all goals, they may move onto the next ‘level’ book cover. This can be glued on the back cover of their writing books.
