What educators are saying

Loved the product! Great intro to google and how it works. Also loved to pair it with task cards. Sparked some great conversations. Kids loved coming up with questions on their own.
The task cards made this lesson really engaging for the kids. It feels so natural to most of us to use Google to search for something, but this activity showed my students that there really is a strategy to getting the results you're looking for. Definitely recommended.

Description

This Google Search Genius Keywords lesson is designed for students who are just starting to learn online search skills. Topics covered include:

  1. How a Google search works (video)
  2. What matters when searching Google
  3. How to pick quality keywords from a search question
  4. Whole group and small group practice searches

INCLUDES

• Editable lesson - PowerPoint and Google Slides files!

• 16 editable task cards for independent or partner practice. Each task card presents a search scenario instead of a search question. Students will not be able to find the answer by simply retyping a question!  Instead, these task cards require students to read the scenario, think about what’s important, and choose effective keywords including synonyms. THESE ARE THE SAME TASK CARDS FOUND IN THE GOOGLE SEARCH GENIUS SEARCH RESULTS AND READING FOR INFORMATION RESOURCES

DETAILS

The lesson takes approximately 30 minutes, but can easily be broken up into smaller mini-lessons. It can be used with a whole class, or could be shared with students to complete on their own or in pairs, depending on students’ skill level.
