Giraffes CAN'T Dance, Painting, Glow Lights, and Digital Dancing Party

Join our #GiraffesCAN campaign with this super fun dancing, painting and glow light party lesson. I will take you through the drawing, painting, glowing, and digital dancing steps inspired by the children's book, Giraffes Can't Dance with resources, videos from my classroom, and step by step instructions in this PDF.

Materials needed:

1. Drawing (pencil, paper, eraser)
2. Painting (tempera paint and paint brush)
3. Glowing (UV paint, black light flashlights)
4. Digital dancing (iPad, Do Ink Green Screen App)
5. Augmented Reality Book Cover (Eyejack App)

I also include a series of images I created in our campaign to accomplish things that felt hard or impossible. Personally, this lesson really felt hard for me to put together. I bought a class set of plush giraffes over 8 years before I was able to figure out how to teach dancing giraffes to 2nd graders. I avoided it until I was asked to name 10 things giraffes can't do. I had so much fun drawing pictures of giraffes knitting, driving, swimming, water skiing, etc. that I started shifting my mindset. Giraffes might not be great at these things, but they can still experience them.

So, I explained to my students that I've always wanted to teach dancing giraffes to my students, would you be willing to give it a try even if it doesn't work out? So, we persevered and came up with a brilliant solution (which I share in the lesson).
