Gingerbread Man Activities Included:

Science

Crumbling Cookie experiment – As a class group, predict what will happen when the gingerbread cookie is dipped into different liquids. Easy prep, step-by-step instructions and

5 Senses Description Activity – students describe a gingerbread cookie with their senses.

Technology

QR Codes with links to YouTube videos about The Gingerbread Man – these are safe links so no ads will display. Additional videos for building background knowledge are also included.

★ Engineering – students create a bridge from various materials. A Challenge Announcement, Planning Booklet and Challenge Completion Certificate are included for the challenge.

Math

Our First Bites Graph – have students take one bite from a gingerbread man cookie, and then graph where they took their bite!

Pattern Blocks Activity – students create the pattern block house for the gingerbread man and then record how many of each shape they used on the recording sheet.

Ten Frame Mats – students choose a numeral card and place it on their mat, then they represent the number by placing manipulatives on the ten frame.

Addition Activity – Students choose an addition card (addition within 5 or within 10) and represent it on the matching mat.

Roll & Cover Mats – a mat for number recognition 1-6, addition with 2 dice, and subtraction using 2 dice.

Language Arts

Writing activity – After you read the letter from the Gingerbread Man, students write an alternative ending to the Gingerbread Man story. A gingerbread man template and speech bubble are included to display their writing.

Fractured Fairy Tale – After you read the Fox’s version of the story. discuss the Point of View and have students decide whom they believe – was it an accident or did the Fox purposefully eat the Gingerbread Man?
