Description

Teaching your students about geometry and measurement can be tough, but this complete 5th grade unit makes it easy! This resource will help you teach your students about the relationship between area and volume. Students begin by exploring the concept of volume through hands-on, real world activities and word problems. They explore the formula for volume and review the formulas for area and perimeter. Students will classify and organize geometric shapes based on their attributes. They will explore generalizations for triangles and quadrilaterals through graphic organizers. Finally, students will solve problems based on capacity, weight, and length using the metric and customary systems. Students will use conversions to answer questions.

Each TEK standard-- 5.4G, 5.6A, 5.6B, 5.4H, 5.5A, 5.7A-- is broken down into Learning Targets to make it easier to track student progress. There are 7 skills in this unit! Each learning target contains intervention and enrichment skills. Both student and teacher data sheets are included to track growth and make small group instruction easier.
