Description

Help students distinguish between geometrically defining attributes (a quadrilateral is a closed 2-dimensional figure with four straight sides and four vertices) versus non-defining attributes (color, orientation, overall size) of QUADRILATERALS.

Students will use their electronic device to view, analyze and sort (click, drag, & drop) ten figures as they move them into the graphic organizer. As students drag images down, a "Remember..." note that outlines the defining attributes of a quadrilateral will be revealed to provide gentle assistance and learning reinforcement.

*File includes an ANSWER KEY on a hidden second slide (consider removing this slide before assigning ppt. to students, as hidden slides are still visible in editing mode).

Distinguish between defining attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation, overall size); build and draw shapes to possess defining attributes.
Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g., quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.
