Geography Themes Lesson, Videos w 25 Qs and Answers

Students will learn the five themes of geography by which our world is connected: location, place, human/environmental interaction, movement, and region. The theory of continental drift and movement of tectonic plates will be explored in videos (web links provided) examining the continents from the past, examining some scientific theories, as well as looking ahead 200 million years and exploring future scientific predictions.

Eight introductory pages to the IMPACT - 8th Grade Geography & History textbook are also provided (the first two pages of which I created 25 questions for students to answer, in a fill in the blank format). All questions have the exact page number thereafter assisting students when searching for answers. I also provided my answer key to make this easy to grade for teachers.

The relevance of studying geography is that students will want to be alert and aware of climate change, tsunami hazard zones, regions prone to earthquakes, shifting tectonic plates, unstable places (sometimes due to hydraulic fracking in pursuit of natural gas) disrupting the environment and causing earthquakes, population growth, industrial development, wars, crime, economic conditions and displacement / migration of peoples; all of which place an increasing demand on our limited scarce natural resources potentially making living in such places more problematic, chaotic and dangerous.

Those who take the time to study geography, social studies, climate change, political policies and decisions, monitor future possible developments and scenarios will be better equipped to survive and adequately respond to these turbulent events (when the majority of humanity will not be prepared and caught off guard).
