Description

Keep your students engaged with this super fun set of NINE genre worksheets that feature pizzas! Students are tasked with filling pizza orders. They will 15 read book descriptions and 12 definitions and match them to the appropriate genre. They will also write two book descriptions themselves! This resource is completely ready to go for you! Just print and proceed!

Worksheets 1-5: Students read a short story description and identify the genre being described. After referring to the pizza menu, students write the name of the pizza ordered on the front of the pizza box.

Worksheets 6-8: Students read a definition and identify the genre being defined. Again, after referring to the pizza menu, students write the name of the pizza ordered on the front of the pizza box. The last worksheet in this set includes a bonus item. Students identify their two favorite genres and write them on the front of the two pizza boxes. Then, they write a paragraph explaining why those two are their favorites.

Worksheet #9: This one can be used to create a fun writing activity. This bonus writing activity can be done after the other worksheets are complete. For this activity, the teacher places the larger menu under their document camera, Then, they distribute the final worksheet where students choose two genres and write a book excerpt for each genre. When students are finished writing, they can exchange their order form with a partner, and have him or her identify the pizzas that were ordered.

This resource can be used to create a fun literacy center, or it can be stapled into a worksheet packet to be completed independently or with a partner. It can even be turned into a game! (Divide into teams of two and give each team a set of pizza orders. Which team can assemble the most correct pizzas?)

********This resource is available in TWO FORMATS:

  1. TRADITIONAL PRINTABLES- Print the PDF and distribute paper copies to your students to complete.
  2. TPT EASEL ACTIVITY- I created a new, colorful version for this digital format. Students can complete this activity on a device. It contains 11 slides. Students read three short book summaries and determine the genres of each. They type their answers in the three answer boxes below each pizza. Finally, they move the appropriate toppings onto the pizza.
