Description
Jumping Beans game from creative curriculum/gold
Jumping beans is a game that helps students learn letters and letter sounds.
This is a set of 26 capitals letters, 26 lower case letters, and then there is a set of 26 capitals and lower case letters combined. There are 11 jumping beans included.
Print these on colored card stock and then laminated then for durability. You need to underline each letter before laminating it. This way the students will know how to turn/face the letter to read it. The letter all face different directions on the beans.
You will need a non-see through can such as a Maxwell house blue plastic coffee can.
You start by putting the letters you are working on in a non-see though can with four or five jumping beans. It is recommended that you start with uppercase letters in the students names and then move to lower case. This way the letters are meaningful to the students.
You let the students in a small group (I have 5 students in my group) pull out one bean at a time. You ask them the letter they pull out. Next you talk about the letter by saying what kind of lines make up the letter and the letter name. You can also add who has the letter in their name. I also add the sound the letter makes and have them repeat it. When a student pulls out the jumping bean everyone in the group get up and jumps. I always have the students count to ten and set back down when jumping.
My small groups usually last 7 minutes. The font used on my computer is comic sans ms so all the letters are writing style.
I do not own any part of creative curriculum or the idea for jumping beans. I only made the materials used for the game.
