Gallery Walk-Great Migration Push and Pull Factors
- Google Docs™
Description
Students will analyze a collection of photographs from the Library of Congress. These images encapsulate a pivotal moment in American history, the mass exodus of African Americans from the oppressive conditions of the Jim Crow South. The students will explore the economic and social push/pull factors and the quest for greater equality that motivated African Americans to move North.
Through this gallery walk analysis, we aim to gain a deeper understanding of the push/pull factors that shaped the Great Migration and its profound impact on the lives of those who came after to shape the Civil Rights Movement.
Essential Questions:
How did economic factors, such as job opportunities and labor conditions, contribute to the push and pull factors driving the Great Migration?
To what extent did the migration of African Americans from the South to the North empower individuals and communities to actively participate in and advocate for civil rights causes?
