    ---------------

So...Mister Lewis, HOW will video-captions + audio help in my classroom?

    ---------------

    What the research says...

Closed captioning is an underutilized tool when it comes to educating young readers. It is entertaining, and they grasp it intuitively.” - KidsReadNow.org

"Animated video is an engaging instrument that can help you tell your story more comprehensively. 65% of people are visual learners, and 90% of the information transmitted to the brain is visual. According to molecular biologist John Medina, vision is our most dominant sense, taking up half of our brain’s resources. And visual information is processed 60,000x faster than text." - DreamGrow.org

    •• Quoting ReadingRockets.org ••

"Several studies (e.g., Bowe & Kaufman, 2001; Evmenova, 2008; Linebarger, 2001; Rickelman, Henk, & Layton, 1991) indicate that captioning and subtitles can help strengthen the following reading skills of students with learning disabilities, ELLs, and struggling or beginning readers:

    • Reading speed and fluency

    • Word knowledge

    • Decoding

    • Vocabulary acquisition

    • Word recognition

    • Reading comprehension

    • Oral reading rates

Research has shown that watching videos appears to have a positive impact on comprehension skills, and combining viewing with text or captions appears to boost vocabulary acquisition, addressing skill deficits of struggling readers (Koskinen, Wilson, Gambrell, & Neuman, 1993; Koskinen, Knable, Markham, Jensema, & Kane 1995; Linebarger, 2001)."

    ----------------------------------------

    WHAT LEVEL ARE THESE?

    ----------------------------------------

This pack is best recommended for 3rd-4th grade, but also for STRONG and or G/T 2nd, or lower 5th. These are perfect for kids who are struggling to enjoy reading.

**Note: These passages are only written at ONE level and unfortunately do not include multiple levels for differentiation.** However, with audiobooks/video books reading along, lower levels can still enjoy these.
